Hollywood Hills Residence
Whole-Home Renovation & Interior Design · Los Angeles, California
Set in the Hollywood Hills, this complete residential interior was designed around warmth, character and a sense of having evolved naturally over time.
The R Creative was responsible for the design throughout the home, including the layout, custom cabinetry, flooring, stone, plasterwork, hardware and lighting, as well as the selection and procurement of furnishings and art.
Rather than creating an interior that feels overly coordinated, the approach was deliberately layered. Rich walnut, natural stone, woven fibres, aged metals and handcrafted pieces sit alongside art and sculptural objects to create a home that feels personal, tactile and collected.
The Kitchen
At the heart of the home, the kitchen establishes much of the material language used throughout the project.
Custom walnut cabinetry was designed to bring warmth and architectural presence to the room while allowing the natural figuring of the timber to remain an important part of the composition.
A substantial stone-topped island creates a generous workspace and informal gathering point. Above it, a series of oversized woven pendants introduces texture and softness, providing a natural counterpoint to the precision of the cabinetry.
The checkerboard floor brings a more graphic element to the scheme. Rather than a stark black and white, its warm, earthy tones give the traditional pattern a softer character and allow it to flow comfortably into the adjoining dining space.
Materiality was central to the kitchen, where richly grained walnut cabinetry is paired with a dramatic Patagonia Rose marble worktop. Its expressive veining introduces movement and warmth, while woven hardware and the checkerboard stone floor add texture and character.
The Primary Suite
The primary bedroom takes a quieter approach, using soft neutrals and tactile materials punctuated by warm terracotta and darker artwork. Suspended leather pendant lights free the bedside tables and introduce a small sculptural detail, while a mix of contemporary furniture, texture and vintage art keeps the room relaxed and individual.
In the adjoining bathroom, The R Creative designed a custom Calacatta Macchia Vecchia marble double vanity together with the floating oak cabinetry beneath. The richly figured stone becomes an architectural feature within an otherwise restrained palette, balanced by warm timber, wall-mounted fittings and tumbled travertine natural stone flooring. A freestanding bath completes the space, creating a bathroom that feels calm, tactile and quietly luxurious.
A Complete Interior
From the architectural layout and custom cabinetry to the final furniture and art, the Hollywood Hills Residence was conceived as a complete interior, layered, tactile and designed to feel collected rather than prescribed.
